Usefulness of Miniature Flexible Fiberoptic
نویسنده
چکیده
A miniature flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope (FFB) (Olympus BF-N20) (2.2 mm diameter) was applied to 53 children (20 female subjects) ranging in age from 3 months to 15 years (mean, 4.19 years). Most common indications for bronchoscopy included stridor or weak cry and persistent wheezing or cough unresponsive to inhaled bronchodilators, chest physiotherapy, steroids, and antimicrobial agents. There were no complications. In 38 children (71.6 percent) it was diagnostically useful, particularly for the investigations of upper airway obstruction (66 percent). In 22 children (41.5 percent) it provided guidance for surgical interventions. The instrument was particularly useful during its application in infants with severe upper airway obstruction who otherwise would require open rigid-tube bronchoscopy in the operating room. It was of limited value when excessive bronchial secretions obstructed the view of the

Indication of Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy and the Histopathological Examination in 500 Patients
Introduction: The importance of flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FFB) for diagnosis of pulmonary diseases is well known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the indications of 500 FFBs performed in Imam Reza hospital, Mashhad, Iran as well as examination of the histopathological and radiological findings.Material and Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of the medical records and chest...
متن کاملInitial Experience of Endoscopic Phonosurgery With a Prototype of the Therapeutic Rhinolarynx Electronic Endoscope
We performed endoscopic phonosurgery in a patient with a laryngeal lesion using a prototype of the therapeutic rhino-larynx electronic endoscope connected to a video processor (Asahi Optical Co., Ltd.). This therapeutic electronic endoscope differs from the fiberoptic endoscope, because it contains an instrument channel and a miniature television camera attached to the tip of the endoscope, con...
متن کاملFiberoptic bronchoscopy guidelines for the anesthesiologist
Fiberoptic bronchoscopy is a widely performed procedure that is generally considered to be safe. The first performed bronchoscopy was done by Gustav Killian in 1897; however, the development of flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy was accomplished by Ikeda in 1964(1). Flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy is a key diagnostic and therapeutic procedure(2). It is estimated that more than 500,000 of these p...
متن کاملA Flexible Skew-Generalized Normal Distribution
In this paper, we consider a flexible skew-generalized normal distribution. This distribution is denoted by $FSGN(/lambda _1, /lambda _2 /theta)$. It contains the normal, skew-normal (Azzalini, 1985), skew generalized normal (Arellano-Valle et al., 2004) and skew flexible-normal (Gomez et al., 2011) distributions as special cases. Some important properties of this distribution are establi...
متن کاملFlexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy. An analysis of proficiency.
The purpose of this study was to determine the number of procedures necessary to become proficient in flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopic examination. I performed 99 bronchoscopic procedures during a formal training program under the direct supervision of instructors with varying experience. There were no statistical differences in the bronchoscopic accuracy among the instructors whose experience...
